Granda – Baker Buffalo Creek Vineyard.

Our wine tonight is the Granda from Baker Buffalo Creek Vineyard.

Red blend of estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Chambourcin.

Fermented in French Oak Barrels.

Burgundy in color.

Intensely fruit forward on the nose, off dry with mild tannins. Flavor notes of black cherries, red plums, blackberries, and red licorice. Finishing long with subtle earthy and nutty tones.

A really nice easy drinking red blend.

12.5% ABV

Baker Buffalo Creek Vineyard is rooted on a 100 plus year old dairy farm. The soil is fertile and rich in nutrients and not over farmed. Originally planted in 2003, much of those original vines remain.

Rustic Red – Wellborn Winery

Our wine tonight is the Rustic Red from Wellborn Winery in the Woods in beautiful Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

Produced of locally grown South Carolina Chambourchin. 75% Estate grown at Wellborn Winery Vineyard and 25% grown at Calico Vineyards in Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

Chambourcin is a French-American hybrid with deep purple skins.

Vintage 2019

Aerated. Did not decant.

Ruby in color with a bright purple rim.

Aromatic nose of fresh baked blueberry muffins, elderberries, raspberries, and chocolate covered cherries.

Semi-sweet.

Medium mouth feel, juicy acidity, with a low tannin structure.

Layered notes of tart raspberries, red currants, cinnamon spice, pepper sauce, and a fresh hot cherry tart, slight smokiness on the finish with a lingering tartness of a Christmas fruitcake.

12% ABV

This wine is racking up awards.
Gold medal winner in the 2019 Wine of the South Competition. Silver medal winner in the 2018 Palmetto Wine Competition.

Holiday Red – Burntshirt Vineyards

Our wine tonight is the Holiday Red from Burntshirt Vineyards in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Blend of Chambourcin and Cabernet Franc.

Crest of the Blue Ridge Henderson County AVA.

Non-Vintage.

Though we did buy this bottle during the 2018 Christmas season.

Beautiful dark ruby color with a bright garnet rim.

Nose of chocolate covered cherries, fresh brewed Colombian coffee, pomegranate, and clove.

Off dry, medium bodied, with subtle tannins.

Nutty on the palate, with depths of red plum, strawberry, bell pepper, cinnamon, vanilla, all spice, oak, mint, and gingerbread cookies.

13% ABV

Bourbon Barrel Aged Chambourcin – Davesté Vineyards

Our wine tonight is the Bourbon Barrel Aged Chambourcin from Davesté Vineyards.

Vintage 2017.

100% Chambourcin.

Dark motor oil like color with a vibrant purple rim.

Nose of cherries, bourbon, vanilla, candy apple, and caramel.

Dry with soft to medium tannins.

Flavor notes of Scotch Bonnet Peppers, dark berries, chocolate covered cherries, oak, caramel, and red hots, finishing long with hints of dark fruit and earthiness.

15% ABV. (not a typo) Its big!

Produced of locally grown Chambourchin.

Light ruby in color.

Nose of fresh baked blueberry muffins, raspberries, passion fruit, dark cherries and the forest after a morning mist.

Semi-sweet.

Flavor notes of tart raspberries, red currants, boysenberries, and a fresh hot cherry turnover, slight smokiness on the finish with a lingering tartness of a Christmas fruitcake.

2008 Chambourcin – Misty Creek Vineyards

Tonight we dusted off a bottle of 2008 estate Chambourcin from Misty Creek Vineyards in Mocksville, North Carolina.

100% produced of estate grown Chambourcin in North Carolina’s Yadkin Valley AVA.

Lightly aged in Hungarian oak.

Beautiful color of violet.

Nose of chocolate covered cherries, pluff mud, and sarsaparilla.

Light residual sugar. Off dry.

Mild tannins with flavor notes of cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, tart raspberries, blueberries, currants, finishing with lingering hints of graphite and smokiness.

12.5% ABV.

$23 a bottle.

This is a really nice drinking #NCWine. We aerated it lightly prior to enjoying.

Pea Ridge Red – Parker-Binns Vineyard

Our wine tonight is the Pea Ridge Red from Parker-Binns Vineyard.

Dual vintage blend of estate grown Chambourcin.

Dark ruby in color with a purple hue.

Expressive nose of raspberries, blackberries, Cranberries, and smoke.

Flavor notes of raspberries cranberries, black cherries, blackberries, black pepper, flat cola, and finishing with lingering tones of leather, smoke, and earthiness.

We have a real fondness for regionally grown Chambourchin and this offering from Parker-Binns doesn’t disappoint.

Pea Ridge Red – Parker-Binns Vineyard

Our wine tonight is the non-vintage Pea Ridge Red from Parker-Binns Vineyard and Winery located in North Carolina’s Tryon Foothills. A blend of dual vintages of estate Chambourchin masterfully bottled to produce an expressive red.

A nose of cola and over ripe red berries, tart raspberry on the tongue and a lingering earthy finish. Beautiful dark ruby in color and high acidity producing a full bodied wine with great legs.

We have a real fondness for regionally grown Chambourchin and this offering from Parker-Binns doesn’t disappoint.
