Nose of ginger and sliced crabapple.

Flavor profile up front of blueberry, finishing more of tart apple and ginger. Lighter citrus notes and hints of minerality linger.

Strawberry Wine – Lazy Bear Winery

Our wine tonight is the award winning Strawberry wine from Lazy Bear Winery in Easley, South Carolina.

Lazy Bear Winery focuses on award winning fruit wines and meads.

Produced from 100% strawberries.

Many of the strawberries are grown on-site and the rest sourced from local South Carolina farms.

Bright salmon in color.

Light nose of strawberry starburst and strawberry twizzlers.

Semi-sweet on the tongue, not overly sweet throughout the tasting.

Flavor notes reminiscent of fresh strawberry shortcake dripping with strawberry syrup, mid-palate lingers with notes of a hot-out-of-the oven strawberry cobbler, finishing similar to a strawberry tart.

12% ABV

This is an excellent representation of a true strawberry fruit wine.

Lazy Bear Winery is a micro-producing family owned winery. They may be small yet they have rack up multiple domestic and international awards!

Peach – Boardwalk Winery

Our wine tonight is the Semi-Dry Peach from Boardwalk Winery in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Boardwalk Winery is located in the large shopping and entertainment complex Broadway on the Beach.

The winery offers a cornucopia of fruit wines, along with a few dry vinifera wines.

Our peach is semi-dry. A sweeter version was also available.

The nose is soft and pleasant, reminiscent of peaches in syrup. Flavor notes are true, with hints of cinnamon on the tip of the tongue. The sweetness and acidity are nicely balanced.

The label features a beautiful beach scene.

Winemaker Tim Walker is in top of his game with this offering.

Barrel Aged Malbec – CityScape Winery

Our wine tonight is the Barrel Aged Malbec from CityScape Winery in Greenville County, South Carolina.

Malbec – CityScape Winery

Vintage 2018

Cellared for 12 months.

Decanted for 90 minutes

100% Malbec Grapes sourced from Yakima Valley in Washington.

Aged in a mix of medium and medium plus oak barrels.

Inky purple color with a thin bright purple rim.

Nose of black cherries, blackberries, smoke and mild cedar.

Medium to Full bodied with well balanced tannins, shows bountiful thick legs.

Flavor profile of black cherries, black licorice, pomegranate, red plums, oak, vanilla, and soft herbal and spicey notes fading toward more complex earthy tones and a light hint of brandy.

This wine paired beautifully with our Italian takeout for dinner.

An excellent drinking and palate pleasing Malbec, one you wouldn’t expect was produced and bottled in South Carolina.

Gold medal winner in the 2019 Palmetto Wine Competition.

In 2019 the Palmetto Wine Competition judges were harsh on vinifera wines so the fact that this Malbec won a Gold medal is a testament to its superior character!

We spoke with with CityScape winemaker Josh Jones and he said they would soon release a 2019 vintage Malbec. Josh said the 2019 was intensely more peppery and spicy than this 2018.

We’re anxiously awaiting!

Red Clay Rosé – Wellborn Winery

Our wine tonight is the Red Clay Rosé from Wellborn Winery in Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

Cranberry in color with a light peach colored rim.

Blend of Catawba, Concord, Noble Muscadine, and Zinfandel.

Shows consistent long cascading legs.

Nose of cranberries, red apples, red plum, cherries, rose petals, white pepper, and boysenberry jam.

Off dry with a light-medium mouth feel. Flavor notes of raspberries , blackberries, cranberries, cherries, raisins, and a finish reminiscent of fig preserves.

A really nice easy drinking wine, we paired with a light Asian meal of chicken, vegetables, and fried rice.

Our wine tonight is the Runway Lights from Elevation 966 Winery in Greenville, South Carolina.

Runway Lights

Blend of Colombard, Sauvignon Blanc, and Simillon.

Pale canary yellow in color.

Nose of lemon meringue pie, pink grapefruit, lime, and pineapple.

Light and crisp, slightly petillant.

Flavor notes of green melon, lemon-lime, pineapple, grapefruit, fig preserves, and honeysuckle.

12% ABV.

Müller Two-Goats – CityScape Winery

Our wine tonight is the Müller Two-Goats from CityScape Winery in Pelzer (Greenville), South Carolina.

Produced from the German Müller-Thrugau varietal and bestowed a name more fitting of this small rural craft winery.

Named of it’s creator, Professor Müller of Thurgau, Switzerland, who created it in 1812 by crossing Riesling and Gutedel.

Beautiful golden color.

Nose of dandelion, unripe peach, and green apple.

Semi-sweet with flavor notes of apricot, lemon, green melon, gardenia, freesia, and a soft honeysuckle finish.

12.% ABV

Winery Escapade scoring on the American Wine Society twenty point scale.

Melomel style is a mead fermented or flavored with fruit.

Nose is true to honey and fruit.

Naturally flavored with elderberries.

Semi-sweet with elderberry fruit notes on the front of the palate with more subtle notes of blueberries, red grapes, honeysuckle, grapefruit, and kumquats. The lingering finish is true to a Wildflower Honey mead.

Rustic Red – Wellborn Winery

Our wine tonight is the Rustic Red from Wellborn Winery in the Woods in beautiful Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

Produced of locally grown South Carolina Chambourchin. 75% Estate grown at Wellborn Winery Vineyard and 25% grown at Calico Vineyards in Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

Chambourcin is a French-American hybrid with deep purple skins.

Vintage 2019

Aerated. Did not decant.

Ruby in color with a bright purple rim.

Aromatic nose of fresh baked blueberry muffins, elderberries, raspberries, and chocolate covered cherries.

Semi-sweet.

Medium mouth feel, juicy acidity, with a low tannin structure.

Layered notes of tart raspberries, red currants, cinnamon spice, pepper sauce, and a fresh hot cherry tart, slight smokiness on the finish with a lingering tartness of a Christmas fruitcake.

This wine is racking up awards.
