Fermented of North Carolina grown apples with raisins, almonds, and spices added.

Vintage 2017.

Medium yellow in color.

Smells like apple pie….

Nose is pronounced of spices, expressive of cinnamon and steeping of nutmeg.

Sweet with low-medium acidity and light bodied.

Pronounce flavor intensity showing green apple, nutmeg, and cinnamon, with a medium almond finish.

Indeed it smells and taste like a freshly baked hot out of the oven apple pie!

Malbec – Alamos

Our wine tonight is the 2018 Argentine Malbec from Alamos.

We just love Malbec from Argentina.

Cultivated of the Mendoza, Argentina Vineyards. These vineyards are among the highest elevations of any of the world’s vineyards.

100% Malbec

The most respected James Suckling rated at 91 points.

Decanted for 60 minutes.

Deep inky purple color.

Nose very expressive of black cherries, plum, cocoa, fresh violets, cedar and a pronounced smokiness.

Dry, medium bodied, with low to medium tannins.

Flavor notes of black cherry, blackberry, red plum, and a distinctive mid-palate of vanilla, black currants, black pepper, and spice, while the lingering finish is reminiscent of a freshly baked hot out of the oven blueberry pie.

An excellent traditional Argentine Malbec.

9 months aged in 60% French oak and 40% American oak.

13.5% ABV

At the price, often under $10, this is a great drinking wine.

OTTO – Marked Tree Vineyard

Our wine tonight is the OTTO white blend from Marked Tree Vineyard.

OTTO = Old Two Tops Oak. Impressive old oak on the property which continues to rise above the farm’s old homestead.

Vintage 2018

Predominantly Vidal Blanc, listed as a blend…so we suspect blended with estate grown Chardonel and Grüner Veltliner.

Light yellow in color, similar to corn silk.

Crest of the Blue Ridge (Henderson County)

Nose of honeysuckle, peach, clematis, jasmine, and eucalyptus.

Semi-sweet with crisp balanced acidity.

Flavor notes of wildflower honey, pineapple, honeysuckle, honeydew melon, and pink grapefruit, and lemon-lime.

Rosé – Stone Ash Vineyard

Provence style.

Rosé of Cabernet Franc

Harvested fruit cold soaked for 12 hours and processed with a cool fermentation.

Light salmon in color.

Nose of ripe melon, gooseberry, citrus, and flint.

Dry with tropical fruit notes on the front palate, pink grapefruit, red currant, with floral notes of daffodils and jasmine. Finishing notes of cold brew, almonds, and cocoa.

Color of light straw.

Nose of lemongrass, light petroleum, green apple, green pear, melon, and apricot.

Dry on the palate, light bodied with flavor notes of citrus and wildflower honey, lemongrass, apricot, and peach. Finishing with hints of white pepper and minerals.

Firesteed Riesling – Oregon

Our wine tonight is the Riesling from Firesteed Cellars in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

Harvested in late October from the Erratic Oaks Vineyard.

Light gold in color.

Lightly diesel on the nose with floral hints of honeysuckle, faint green melon, and sliced peaches in syrup.

Medium bodied and off dry on the palate with notes of green apple, mango, wildflower honey, white plum, grapefruit, and lemon and lime, with almonds and pineapple lingering on the crisp finish.

13% ABV

Pair with a spicy Asian dish or blackened fish tacos.

Serve slightly chilled beyond cellar temperature.

Chenin Blanc – Biltmore Estate Winery

Our wine tonight is the limited release Chenin Blanc from Biltmore Estate Winery in Asheville, North Carolina.

Vintage 2019

Limited Release.

Fruit harvested from partner growers in California.

Pale gold in color.

Expressively floral bouquet and pleasantly aromatic of honeysuckle and lilac.

Semi-sweet on the tongue exhibiting crisp acidity. 4.1% RS

Citrusy layered on the palate with notes of lemon-lime, pink grapefruit, key lime, and star fruit, finishing with lingering tart notes of green apple and bosc pear.

12.5% ABV

$17 a bottle (at the winery).

The 2019 is perhaps more pleasantly balanced than the 2017 and 2018 vintages. This vintage is delightfully refreshing and elegantly balanced.

2019 Chenin Blanc from Biltmore Estate Winery

Biltmore Estate Winery is the most visited winery in The U.SA. A tasting is included in the Biltmore Estate price of admission.

Biltmore Estate currently with 40+ acres under vine grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Merlot, and has recently planted a vineyard of Petit Manseng. Area viticulturalist are seeing Petit Manseng grow very well in the Western North Carolina climate.

Strawberry Wine – Lazy Bear Winery

Our wine tonight is the award winning Strawberry wine from Lazy Bear Winery in Easley, South Carolina.

Lazy Bear Winery focuses on award winning fruit wines and meads.

Produced from 100% strawberries.

Many of the strawberries are grown on-site and the rest sourced from local South Carolina farms.

Bright salmon in color.

Light nose of strawberry starburst and strawberry twizzlers.

Semi-sweet on the tongue, not overly sweet throughout the tasting.

Flavor notes reminiscent of fresh strawberry shortcake dripping with strawberry syrup, mid-palate lingers with notes of a hot-out-of-the oven strawberry cobbler, finishing similar to a strawberry tart.

12% ABV

This is an excellent representation of a true strawberry fruit wine.

Lazy Bear Winery is a micro-producing family owned winery. They may be small yet they have rack up multiple domestic and international awards!

Chloe Rosé – Marked Tree Vineyards

Our wine tonight is the Chloe Rosé from Marked Tree Vineyards in Flat Rock, North Carolina. 

Vintage 2018

Estate grown blend of 90% Cab Franc and 10% Lemburger. 

Crest of the Blue Ridge Henderson County AVA. 

Produced in the Saignee style.

Light salmon in color.

Off dry and light. Strikingly refreshing. 

Nose of stone fruits with subtle tones of red currant, strawberry, basil, and soft minerals, showing a bright acidity with flavor notes of blood orange, ripe apple, red plum, watermelon, and honeydew melons. 

Fruit grown in their Upper Pisgah block planted in 2015. So for young fruit this produced a nice rosè. 

12.5% ABV.

We visited Marked Tree Vineyards On their opening weekend, which was Memorial Day weekend 2020. 

We enjoyed a bottle of this Rosé on our visit and of course brought a bottle home. Blow are a few pictures from our visit.

Granda – Baker Buffalo Creek Vineyard.

Our wine tonight is the Granda from Baker Buffalo Creek Vineyard.

Red blend of estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Chambourcin.

Fermented in French Oak Barrels.

Burgundy in color.

Intensely fruit forward on the nose, off dry with mild tannins. Flavor notes of black cherries, red plums, blackberries, and red licorice. Finishing long with subtle earthy and nutty tones.

A really nice easy drinking red blend.

12.5% ABV

Baker Buffalo Creek Vineyard is rooted on a 100 plus year old dairy farm. The soil is fertile and rich in nutrients and not over farmed. Originally planted in 2003, much of those original vines remain.
